Stoeger Rules Out Pessimism We Have Self Confidence

Stöger rules out pessimism: "We have self-confidence"

Rapid coach praises his team's fighting spirit before the Bundesliga restart

Hütteldorfer wants to continue the positive trend after the World Cup break and sees his team well prepared for the next tasks.

Rapid coach Ferdinand Stöger does not want to know anything about pessimism before the restart of the Bundesliga. "We have self-confidence," said the Hütteldorfer coach on Tuesday at a press conference. Rapid is currently in fifth place in the table, seven points behind leaders Red Bull Salzburg. Nevertheless, Stöger praised his team's fighting spirit and sees it well prepared for the upcoming tasks.

"We have a lot of games ahead of us in a short period of time," said Stöger. "But we are physically fit and mentally strong." The Hütteldorfer have won their last three competitive games, including a 2-1 win over Wolfsberg in the cup. "That gives us confidence," said Stöger. "We want to continue this positive trend."

Rapid will start the second half of the season on Saturday with a home game against Austria Klagenfurt. The Hütteldorfer then have to play three more games within a week, including the derby against Wiener Austria. Stöger does not want to put too much pressure on his team. "We take it game by game," said the 56-year-old. "We want to win every game, but we also know that we can't always do it."
